Being friends for a long time, the bass virtuoso Bal?zs Cs?ky and electronics wizard Marcell Kov?cs formed "Sonar" (named by an acronym for sound navigation and ranging, a technique that uses sound propagation underwater) in December 2004. Searching for other musicians, they've come to the guitar guru B?lint Szab?, and changed few drummers until found the current beat maker, Velkei Rudolf.
The band recorded their earliest first self-titled demo in 2005, followed by the single "Deltroid", which became their first massive success. Their debut full format "Celluloid" got a big worldwide attention, not limited only by their home Hungary, in 2008, and dedicated live performances, full of visual effects, obviously impressed the audience a lot, since currently the band has constantly a lot of invitations to perform. Their future plans also include recording with guest musicians, like the trumpetist Dodi Karpati and a chamber orchestra.
Despite Sonar's music attracts really wide audience, they still have not signed with any label, and ditribute CDs and digital music with their own powers. So, for our independant showcase, we were really proud to invite such independant band.
